March 29, 2015 The Walking Dead – Try (Season 5 / Episode 15)
With the final chapter of the roller coaster ride that has been season five of The Walking Dead right around the corner, fans have a lot to anticipate. After the tragic death of Noah in Spend, does Deanna believe Nicholas’ lies? What is his plan with Ricks gun? Also, who are the members of the other group leaving dismembered and scarred walkers everywhere? All this and more started to come to a boil after last Sunday’s Try episode.
Tensions are high within the walls of Alexandria, and some members question their future in their new home. Mourning the loss of her son, Deanna is deep in thought, Father Gabriels’ words still fresh on her mind, as well as Nicholas’ false version of the story. After Glenn confronts him, it is soon after revealed that Nicholas in fact took Ricks gun, his next move unsure, but one that prove problematic for the beloved characters. While Nicholas clearly is incompetence and cowardly, Glenn seems to have him pegged as the rat he is.
Meanwhile scouting for new recruits, the new fellowship of Aaron and Daryl spot a fire in the woods. When they make their way over to the camp, they come across a frightening sight. Similar to discovery found in Noah’s community back in What Happened and What’s Going on, limbs are strewn about, and a half-eaten girl is tied to a tree, left to turn. Daryl quickly realizes the event just happened, thus stirs much anticipation of who the villainous group that did this, and more important when will they rear their ugly heads. Throughout this season, clues of this groups existence has been daunting the audience, only revealing that they are getting closer to Alexandria, and they leave nothing but destruction behind.
Also venturing out into the woods, on a lighter note, Carl again follows Enid . Enid, also from the outside, catches wind to him following and they soon connect, realizing they both have the same fears. While not as dramatic as other events unfolding in Try, this new found friendship for Carl can mean a lot, or not. If nothing it shows a connection for Carl with another person his age who understands him on a more even playing field.
Flipping back to inside the walls of Alexandria, Rick vows to put a stop to Pete and his violent mannerism towards Jessie. He receives next to no support from Deanna, who subscribes punishment tactics that are far different than Rick and Carols. Confronting Jessie about the situation, and confessing feelings for her, seems rather out of character for Rick, but perhaps this is all part of his plan. Naturally Pete is angered by Ricks interference, and the two get involved in a bloody brawl, nearly killing each other in front of the community. Over the deep end, Rick pulls his gun and begins to yell at Deanna about the real world, ranting on like a crazed lunatic. Before he can hurt anyone further, Michonne takes it upon herself to knock him out, possibly the most favorable move in this most awkward situation.
Although determined to keep her vision of civilization going, Deanna’s politics may be cut short, as other threats are dangerously close by. With the mystery group, Nicholas having Ricks gun in his possession, and Father Gabriel openly not trusting his own group, the future of the community hangs in the balance. What will happen now that Rick has seemingly has been taken out of a role of authority in Alexandria? Is the haven within the walls of Alexandria coming to a murderous end? As season five draws to a close, the fans are surely in for a nail biting experience Sunday March 29th at 9 PM EST when the finale episode of Conquer airs. CrypticRock.com gives Try 4 out of 5 stars.
