Bobbie Dazzle – Fandabidozi (Album Review)

Bobbie Dazzle 2024

With the glory days of Glam Rock now a half-century behind us with artists like Sweet (“Ballroom Blitz,” “Fox on the Run,”), T Rex (“Ride a White Swan,” “Get It On”), and of course the legendary David Bowie (“Ziggy Stardust,” “Rebel Rebel”), it is nice to see some new blood emerging in the genre like Bobbie Dazzle.

Who exactly is Bobbie Dazzle you may ask? She is the Glam Rock persona of UK Singer-Songwriter Siân Greenaway. Previously of the Doom Rock band Alunah, Greenaway tragically lost her sister, and needed something positive to keep her going, thus harnessing her emotions into Bobbie Dazzle. A relatively new project, she and her band signed on with Rise Records, now emerging with the studio album Fandabidozi on October 4, 2024.

A debut preceded by the pre-album release of “Back To The City,” “Flowers On Mars,” “Merry-Go-Round,” and “Magic of Music,” in total Fandabidozi is ten tracks of upbeat Rock-n-Roll. Featuring hooky guitar riffs, chant-along choruses, and some trippy space elements for good measure, the overall vibe of this debut is energized. Bobbie Dazzle (Siân Greenaway) captures the best elements of classic Glam Rock-n-Roll, all while creating something authentic, fresh, and fun.

With a passionate delivery, her voice soars over the top of each composition; rich with timeless melodies and a flair for the dramatic, as plenty of drum and guitar solos pour over. With a very balanced approach entwined in the fabric of Fandabidozi, go-to listens would have to include the jumpstarting opener “Lightning Fantasy,” the ever-so-retro “Merry-Go-Round,” and the dazzling “Magic of Music.” This is while other ear-catching listens include the very theatric “Antique Time Machine,” more stripped back “Lady on Fire,” plus the smooth, almost Van Morrison-vibed “April Showers.”

Altogether Fandabidozi is an album that pays homage to a style of Rock-n-Roll from the ‘70s era that is unforgettable. With this in mind, it will be interesting to see if Bobbie Dazzle will stick with this aesthetic moving forward with future releases, or if there will be an expansion into other sounds. Only time will tell, but if anything, Fandabidozi is evidence that Siân Greenaway is an extremely talented songwriter with a genuine love for music. This in itself makes the dive into Bobbie Dazzle worth it, but the fact that the songs are quite good is a big bonus. So, if you are a fan of Rock-n-Roll Fandabidozi is a surefire hit. That is why Cryptic Rock gives the Bobbie Dazzle debut 4 out of 5 stars.
