Daisy the Great - The Rubber Teeth Talk

Daisy the Great- The Rubber Teeth Talk (Album Review)

Daisy the Great 2025 The idea of a Rock band with multiple vocalists was once the norm decades ago, but in more recent years, it is a bit of an anomaly.

Historically, you can look at the iconic teaming vocals of The Beatles, featuring John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and even Ringo Starr. Then you turn to the likes of Fleetwood Mac, which at their peak, had the mix of Lindsay Buckingham, Stevie Nicks, and Christina McVie. There is also the iconic sister duo of Ann and Nancy Wilson in Heart, among many other notable groups. Fast forward to more recent years, and these dynamics are few and far between. Thankfully, there are modern acts like Daisy the Great who relish in doing things their own way.

Forming a close bond while attending college together in New York City, Kelly Dugan and Mina Walker quickly realized they had similar ideas about music and thus formed Daisy the Great. A band with a very unique sound (where you can hear elements of Pop, Rock, Folk, ‘90s Alternative, and even Punk), they have grown quite a bit since their formation nearly a decade ago in 2016. Putting out numerous albums and EPs, all while touring (opening for everyone from AJR to The Kooks), 2025 marks the arrival of the third full-length Daisy the Great record, The Rubber Teeth Talk.

Daisy the Great’s follow-up to 2022’s All You Need Is Time, in between they put out a couple of EPs, including the 2024 collaboration Spectacle: Daisy the Great vs. Tony Visconti where they teamed with with the fantastic Tony Visconti (famous for working with everyone from T. Rex to David Bowie) to co-write five tracks together. An experience that Dugan and Walker will most likely soon never forget, The Rubber Teeth Talk applies a good deal of experimentation, making for quite an enjoyable listen. Including early 2025 singles like the catchy “Ballerina” (put out in March), the lovely harmonization of “Mary’s At The Carnival” (put out in April), dream-like textured “Bird Bones” (put out in May), and “Dog” (which preceded the album release by a couple of days in late June), in total there eleven tracks of music to dig into.

The four singles are a great way to break the ice for the remainder of The Rubber Teeth Talk, the album, which was released on June 27, 2025, through S-Curve Records. Offering many more compelling tracks, the album does not necessarily follow a linear path, but instead moves along with variously sounding songs that fit together like pieces of a puzzle. Lasting forty minutes, some of the most fascinating moments unfold within the balance of melodic guitars and beautifully paired vocals, as heard on “Lemon Seeds” and “Swinging.” There are also other bold portions, such as the moody “Dream Song” and “Rest of My Life,” featuring vocals that fully capture your imagination.

Overall, The Rubber Teeth Talk is an artfully crafted album featuring stunning, haunting melodies and vocals that linger long after the music stops. That is why, if you have happened to miss out on Daisy the Great in the last decade, now is the time to take a closer look. For fans of Alternative Rock music with ethereal qualities, Cryptic Rock gives Daisy the Great’s The Rubber Teeth Talk 4 out of 5 stars.
