Always a fan of ‘90s Alternative Rock and early 2000s Emo Rock, Blackwell openly wore these influences on her sleeve in early 2023 when posting some cover tracks via TikTok. Tempering expectations and taking a risk, it all paid off, as many discovered the passionate singing of Blackwell; with some of her performance videos achieving viral status, thus snowballed into something more.
Now in her mid-twenties, the social media success of the cover tracks opened new doors for Blackwell to release some original tunes online, and traction began to mount rapidly with the arrival of her debut EP, Calico, in December 2023. A three-song collection that showcased Blackwell as a talented singer, songwriter, and producer, the sound of Calico was drenched with distorted guitars, memorable vocal hooks, and thoughtful, personal lyrical stories.
An engaging blend of rawer Alternative Rock, 2024 was to follow with stunning songs like “Dumb” and “Signs,” piquing even more interest. From here, Blackwell hit the road in 2024 with the likes of Julia Wolf (another rising star who recently released the album Pressure in May 2025) before making a debut at SXSW in March 2025. All great opportunities to earn confidence and exposure to a larger audience; on June 20, 2025, Blackwell took another bold step forward with the release of her sophomore EP, Nine Lives.
Four new tracks, all written, performed, and produced by Blackwell, Nine Lives is another fascinating output that matches moody tones, honest lyrics, and a dream-like atmosphere. Possessing a texture that will appeal to anyone with an appreciation for distorted, humming guitars with irresistible melodic riffs and haunting vocals, tracks like “More” and the single “LALALA” are a couple of the stunning standouts.
With a lot of road ahead, the best part of Bee Blackwell is that her adventure has just begun. Heading upward with the steady release of music and a spirit of ambition, it is just a matter of time before her artistry earns her spots on even bigger stages.
