Talent comes from all corners of the earth just waiting to be discovered. Sometimes it is put on display by a large record company, other times we need to dig a little deeper to uncover it. That is where Whitney Lindquist comes in: a relatively unknown singer-songwriter deserving of the international spotlight.
Out of the greater Northwest portion of the United States, originally from Washington state and currently located in Portland, Oregon, Lindquist is a talented musician with a zest for life. Recently completing her third year as a psych major, Lindquist is full of artistic feelings with a passion for drawing, acrobatics, dance, nature, and of course, music.
Also a proud part of the LGBTQ+ community and very comfortable in her own skin, she has taken her musician dreams into her own hands. In fact, she writes, performs, records, and masters all her own music under her own independent record label. Already releasing a list of material on her own through digital platforms including YouTube, Soundcloud, Spotify, iTunes, and Amazon Music, listeners will be pleasantly surprised to find her name pop up in a search scrolling for new artists.
Now the question is, what kind of music does Lindquist create? Not easy to box in, it is a hybrid of styles ranging from Pop, Folk, Trip Hop, Ambient, and so much more. Full of subtle instrumentation, thoughtful lyrical content, and a warm, comforting voice, Lindquist’s style is a freeing artistic expression that is similar to that of famously known performers including Dido, Natalie Imbruglia, and Sarah McLachlan. Yet still, Lindquist creates a mood all her own.
Prolific in recent years, in 2018 alone she put out a slew of new music, including her Stripped EP, Chaleur LP, as well as her most recent full-length album, Perpetual Motion. Available as of November 25th on various digital platforms, including Amazon Music, Perpetual Motion is a collection of 7 songs that captivate in a haunting manner.
From the delicate piano work to the strings carefully placed throughout, it is a beautiful, emotional offering of music. Worth a listen from start to finish, standout moments include the tranquil “Runaway” and passionately addictive “Bound.” The best part: it is all Lindquist. Yes that is right, she is a one-man band playing guitar, ukulele, bass, violin, piano, drums, and flute.
There is no question Whitney Lindquist is an inspired young talent who’s love for living bleeds through in her music. In her own words, via her Tumblr page, she just “wants everyone to feel better about life.” A sentiment we should all be able to agree on, do yourself a favor and give this fiery singer-songwriter a shot, you will not regret it!
