Captivated by Rock-n-Roll since he was young, Greg T. Walker took his passion and turned it into a career that has lasted five decades and counting. A highly accomplished bassist, Walker worked with Lynyrd Skynyrd between 1971 and 1972 and was also an integral part of the highly successful Heavy Rock band Blackfoot, contributing to seven studio albums over nearly two decades.

Rejoining Blackfoot in 2004 when they reunited, he remained there for seven more years before starting a new chapter in his musical career. Forming a band called Two Wolf in 2015, after years of lineup shifts, they finally came into complete focus with a lineup including Lance Lopez (guitar/vocals), Kris Bell (guitar/vocals), and Rusty Valentine (drums). Full of talent and drive, they went on to record their debut self-titled album, which arrived in June 2025 through Cleopatra Records.

A big move for Walker and Two Wolf, the band’s sound is heavy, raw, and energetic Hard Rock with modern leanings that should interest many. Excited for the future, Greg T. Walker sat down to chat about his time with Blackfoot, the work put into Two Wolf, plus more.

Cryptic Rock – You have been active in the music industry professionally for over 5 decades now. Working with everyone from Lynyrd Skynyrd to Blackfoot, how would you describe your incredible journey in music?

Greg T. Walker – It has been an incredible journey! I started at age five, had my first Rock-n-Roll, and at age ten, including future Blackfoot members Rickey Medlocke and Jakson Spires, and decades later, I am still going strong.

Cryptic Rock – Wow, it has undoubtedly been a long time, and a career full of excitement. Going on to Blackfoot, you would be an integral part of the band over the course of many successful albums and touring. Blackfoot was a great mix of Southern Rock, Blues, and Heavy Rock. What was your time like with Blackfoot?

Greg T. Walker – My time with Blackfoot was an incredible time in my life. Touring the world and playing with the biggest bands in the industry was total bliss. We went from an opening act to special guest to headlining one rung up the ladder at a time. Seventeen years, the first run, and another seven years later, it was a wonderful career.

Cryptic Rock – Absolutely! A lot of great music came out of your time with Blackfoot. Around twenty years ago, Blackfoot reformed, and you were a part of that reunion. Since that time, you have gone on to other projects, including Two Wolf. After being away so long, what was it like to get back into Blackfoot, and how did that lead up to the formation of Two Wolf?

Greg T. Walker – Between the two long-term years with Blackfoot, Jakso, and me did studio work, playing on numerous albums. We continued to write music together, did a few commercials, recorded songs for ourselves with video, and played live shows as part of the band Southern Rock Allstars. I did guest shows with bands at times, then decided it was time to reboot and form a permanent band. I launched Two Wolf in 2015. After numerous lineup changes, I wound up with the
ultimate group of guys, and ten years later, we are going stronger than ever.

Cryptic Rock – It is interesting to hear how it all came together. Two Wolf is an exciting project where you work with the likes of Lance Lopez. This band is heavy, passionate, and energetic. What inspired the direction of Two Wolf?

Greg T. Walker – Two Wolf falls into the same vein of Hard Rock as Blackfoot; it’s what I knew best, so it was an easy transition. The guitarists loved the Blackfoot catalog, so it evolved quickly and naturally, effortlessly.

Cryptic Rock – And it works very well. Two Wolf has been working for some time, but the band recently released its debut self-titled album in June 2025. How exciting is it for you to finally get an album out there, and what was the writing and recording process like?

Greg T. Walker – The CD was released on Cleopatra Records in late June, and the vinyl came out on October 17th. The recording process flowed like butter; we were all in the same room in the studio, which made for a “live feel,” and it was seamless. Each of us contributed to songwriting, so it was a true group effort.

Cryptic Rock – You can tell there was chemistry; these are powerful songs from start to finish. As mentioned, Two Wolf is quite energetic. You retain a classic Southern Hard Rock sound while also balancing it with more modern Hard Rock. How would you describe the sound of the band?

Greg T. Walker – I think you just described it best! It’s Hard Rock, in your face, no pretense, no excuses, raw, guitar-driven energy with everyone on the same page.

Cryptic Rock – Right. That is what makes it feel so genuine. Beyond Lance Lopez, you are also working with Kris Bell and Rusty Valentine. This is a very talented and versatile band. What has it been like working with them?

Greg T. Walker – Working with the best makes it become a cohesive compilation of talent, and we feed off each other, so to speak.

Cryptic Rock – Yes, and it would be fun to see the band perform live. Speaking of which, Two Wolf will be a part of the Rock Legends Cruise in February 2026. Do you have any further plans for more live shows thereafter?

Greg T. Walker – We love Rock Legends Cruises because we get to play with so many Classic Rock bands I have been friends with for decades. It’s like a musician’s family reunion. Besides the upcoming cruise, we already have eight confirmed dates on the books and will be adding to that in the months ahead. 2026 will be a busy year!

Cryptic Rock – Fantastic! That is something to look out for. As someone with the vast experience and success you have had, what would you consider some of the most valuable things you have learned from your time as a working musician?

Greg T. Walker – I’ve learned that loyalty is everything, that trust doesn’t always come easy, that business can often get in the way, but that hard work and determination can take you a long way. You have to “stay the course” and never give up if you expect to achieve your goals.

Cryptic Rock – That is good sound advice for life in general. Last question, if you are a fan of Horror and/or Sci-Fi films, what are some of your favorites? If not, what are some of your favorite movies in general?

Greg T. Walker – I loved Horror movies as a kid; it was scary and spectacular at the same time. As an adult, I loved Jeremiah Johnson (1972), The Last of the Mohicans (1992), Dances With Wolves (1990), and Native themed movies. On the contrary, I also loved The Godfather (1972)!
