With dreams of performing, Maddie Hasson has been captivated by the arts since a young age. Initially a dancer in her formidable years, by the time she was sixteen, Hasson had her first role in a feature film. Since that time she has continued to grow with her role in the ABC Mystery-Thriller Twisted (which earned her back-to-back nominations for the Teen Choice Awards in 2013 and 2014), starred in popular films like 2021’s Malignant, and now in 2024 takes on a leading role in Sci-Fi vibed Elevation.
In theaters on November 8, 2024, and directed by George Nolfi (The Bourne Ultimatum 2007, The Adjustment Bureau 2011), Hasson co-stars alongside Morena Baccarin and Anthony Mackie in this action-packed thriller deep in the mountains. A new challenge for her, when asked if she would do it again she said –
100%!
Excited for what is next, Maddie Hasson took some time to chat about her career, the work put into Elevation, plus more.
Cryptic Rock – You have been involved in acting for some time now. In that time you have taken on roles in many different genres. Briefly tell us, how would describe your career to this point?
Maddie Hasson – What I look for when I take on a new role is where is the new challenge. I try not to look at things as a big-picture view. I try to just stay in the present. My goal is to just be challenged so that I remain engaged.
Cryptic Rock – Right, and as mentioned, you have certainly done a diverse mix of things. You have worked in Drama, Thrillers, and Horror. Your latest film Elevation, is more of an Action Thriller. What brought this project about for you?
Maddie Hasson – I had never done a straight-up Action movie. I love George Nolfi’s previous work. I grew up watching Sci-Fi. Some of the first movies and shows that I loved were all Sci-Fi. The idea of getting to run away from this giant monster in the mountains in Colorado, I just was like, “Yeah, let’s do it.”
Cryptic Rock – Very cool. You said you never had done an Action film before. Was that more of a challenge than you expected?
Maddie Hasson – I think because we shot in Colorado, and we were at such a high altitude, the challenge of getting enough oxygen, to even be there, was quite big. You’re so exhausted at the end of the day that you feel like you really did your job, which I liked.
Cryptic Rock – That is good. You said you enjoy Sci-Fi. Elevation certainly does have a Sci-Fi feel. You could also say it has a little bit of a Horror element in it as well. Is the Horror genre something you enjoy as well?
Maddie Hasson – Yeah, I love Horror movies. I watched three horror movies just recently, actually. I watched Psycho (1960), American Psycho (2000), and then I watched The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974).
Cryptic Rock – That is interesting to hear. Those selections are a good mix of different psychological types of murderous personalities.
Maddie Hasson – Yeah. I guess. I don’t know what that says about me (Laughs).
Cryptic Rock – (Laughs) Well, some would say you have good tastes with those three films right there. With Elevation out now, would you consider doing another Action film after this experience?
Maddie Hasson – 100%!
