Just two years removed from releasing the album Älskar, the young, talented Nina Nesbitt is back with her new offer, Mountain Music. Her first through the independent label Apple Tree Records, Mountain Music arrives on September 27, 2024. This being her fourth overall full-length studio album, Nesbitt had opted to step back from modern world distractions and anxieties to create these new songs. A good choice, considering social media is a vacuum that sucks you in and is like the empty calories of a funnel cake, what you get is a new collection of music that is extremely authentic.

Looking back, Älskar was also a strong album that touched on many personal feelings of Nesbitt, but Mountain Music has a bit of a different vibe to it. Taking on an almost Country music vibe at times, through twelve songs you can see that Nesbitt has let her influences engulf her. Being someone who grew up inspired by American Folk Rock, this album puts all of that on display in a very authentic, colorful way. That being said, the mood is set by the smooth, gentle feelings heard in the opener “Pages.” Spreading a positive sensation, you are lulled in with lyrics that are easily relatable, and openly vulnerable, as organic instrumentation follows through.

From here the album dips and dives out of delicate melodies and vocals, albeit the catchy, thriving “I’m Coming Home,” and the single “Anger.” Looking at “Anger” more closely, it has a thicker layer of intensity that digs deep under your skin and resonates long after the last note ceases. These two of the more upbeat tracks of the bunch,  “On The Run” is a smoother song with easy-going rhythms that easily fade in with the background. This is while “Mansion” has a delight with dreamy melodies that let you drift off in memories and thoughts.

Matching these, you have to acknowledge other standouts; like the Country leaning “Big Thing, Small Town.” However, Nesbitt releases emotions evenly throughout Mountain Music, and a truly lovely moment emerges with “Parachute.” Laying it all on the line, she conveys feelings of sometimes feeling out of place within a big lights and glamour music industry, but at last, finding a comfortable place where she can be herself.

Overall, each song on Mountain Music has wonderful lyrics and arrangements that get your mind wandering. In truth, this is an album you can fully get lost in. Some may treat it as background filler, but it is imperative that you pay attention to what is going on; because there are timeless melodies here that never grow tired or boring. Nina Nesbitt is conveying in a honest manner about the ups and downs of life that we all experience, reminding us that it is alright to be human. Match this with her ear-catching voice, you are taken step by step through a journey of music that is second to none. That is why Cryptic Rock gives her efforts on Mountain Music 5 out of 5 stars.
