Too many, Rob Thomas is a brilliant singer and songwriter, and probably one of the best Alternative Rock crossover to Pop Rock singers of the last twenty years. Whether it is with his band Matchbox Twenty or his solo music, Thomas has found success with major hits like 1996’s “3 AM” and “Push,” 1999’s Santana collaboration of “Smooth,” or 2005’s “Lonely No More.”
Speaking of which, it has been twenty years since Thomas’s debut solo album …Something to Be. A record that was undoubtedly different from much of what Thomas had done to that point with Matchbox Twenty, it broadened him to a more mainstream audience across the globe. Considering this, Thomas has balanced both his time with Matchbox Twenty and his solo material quite well in more recent times, releasing the impressive album Where the Light Goes with the band in 2023, before returning in 2025 with his new solo album All Night Days.
Released on September 5, 2025, through Universal Records, All Night Days is the sixth overall solo album from Thomas and his first original LP since 2019’s Chip Tooth Smile. A little over two decades after …Something to Be, it features eleven stunning songs, lasting for a total of thirty-three minutes. Proving he has not lost a step as time has passed, Thomas not only writes heartwarming and heartbreaking songs, but his voice is also still capable of making you feel this heartbreak or a warm and fuzzy feeling. Always with a hint of sorrow and brokenness, and yet empowering and comforting, it is all on full display with All Night Days.
Beginning with the smooth “Hand In My Hand,” alongside relaxing melodies, this song will make you feel right at home. Thereafter, the title track “All Night Days” continues with a catchy and thriving arrangement that will get you going instantly. Then, Thomas tells you that it is “Hard To Be Happy,” despite the birds chirping in the opening part. With a hint of melancholy, this song is relatable and will put a slight smile on your face.
On it goes with “I Believe It,” where the piano at the start piques your curiosity, making you want to hear more. With Thomas giving you what you wish to, the song might even catch you dancing to, but don’t fight it. On the other hand, “Thrill Me” is a lot more thoughtful. Beware, though; it will dig deep and strangely become empowering.
With that all in mind, “Picture Perfect” wraps around you like a safety blanket while “Machine” pulls you along again with a more upbeat vibe. However, the self-critical “No Good At Loving You” will get you swaying back and forth before “Ghost” comes with an irresistible and absolutely relatable message. If this were not enough, “Losing My Mind” is oozing smooth and charming lyrics that warm your heart, before “Back To The Start” concludes it all on a high note.
In the end, each track on All Night Days features brilliant lyrics that are absolutely worth paying attention to. In truth, the album is great for any mood with timeless melodies and vocal hooks. That is why Cryptic Rock gives All Night Days 5 out of 5 stars.
