Sienna Spiro – Sink Now, Swim Later (EP Review)

Sienna Spiro 2025

The internet is full of many aspiring individuals who are looking to get noticed. Some have a gimmick to get attention, whereas others have raw talents that are impossible to ignore once you click play on whatever video or sound clip you have come across. For some, this is a moment of engagement before moving on to the next thing, but in the case of an artist like Sienna Spiro, anyone would be foolish not to remember the name.

Shedding some light on this story, Sienna Spiro is a young singer-songwriter from London, England, who has had a passion for music her entire life. Said to have begun writing her own songs at the age of ten, at only sixteen, she began posting videos of herself singing on social media platforms like TikTok… and it attracted attention. Not one of these gimmick-type personalities, Spiro is one who puts out a stunning singing voice where she has impeccable control and styling that is reminiscent of performers of old rather than the whispery singing that has dominated airwaves in the last decade or so. This is a factor that makes Spiro stand out in the crowd.

She would then go on to release her first single, “Need Me,” in May 2024, before “Maybe” in August 2024. The latter found itself at number 75 on the Official Singles Chart, leading into the singles “Taxi Driver” in October 2024 and “Back to Blonde” in November 2024. On a roll and building even more traction, early 2025 brought on the release of the absolutely stunning “Butterfly Effect,” where Spiro boldly puts her exceptional breath control on display.

Naturally, Spiro is a talent that is too good to keep merely a part of some viral video. As a result, Capitol Records signed her on, with the anticipated debut EP Sink Now, Swim Later, arriving on February 21, 2025. The proper next step in her development, let us point out that Spiro is only nineteen… so the sky is truly the limit. With this considered, she not only possesses a strong set of pipes, but she also writes lyrics that come from the heart and are only made more pronounced by the emotion in singing.

To explain everything further, Spiro certainly falls into the genre of Modern Pop, but her style is far more mature and refined than the glitzy, trendy material out there today. Imagine in a smokey Jazz club and picture a place where everyone’s eyes are fixed on Spiro under a sole spotlight as the surrounding clamor is silenced to a hush to pay full attention. A riveting sensation, the songs of Spiro, by and large,  are stripped back to just her voice as a piano or guitar delicately leads in the backdrop.

Understanding this, songs like the aforementioned “Butterfly Effect” are surely show-stopping, while “Need Me” possesses vulnerability. Then others like “I Don’t Hate You” trap you under a spell as Spiro tells her story of a broken heart, while “Cyanide” amps up the tempo with a vibrating full Jazz Rock orchestration.

Overall, there is much to like about what Sienna Spiro brings to the modern music scene. These eight songs give a great introduction to what she is capable of. Pop, R&B, and Jazz singing all mixed together, it is highly recommended to check out the rising stardom of Sienna Spiro, as Cryptic Rock gives Sink Now, Swim Later 4.5 out of 5 stars.
