Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 / ITN Studios (2024)

Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 (Movie Review)

Released in theaters nationwide on March 26, 2024, through Jagged Edge Productions and ITN Studios, Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 is the second installment in the live-action Winnie-the-Pooh Horror series. A follow-up to 2023’s Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey, for those wondering how it is even possible with copyrights, back on January 1, 2022, the classic 1926 Winnie-the-Pooh book entered the public domain in the United States. This meant it was fair game for anyone who wanted to use the character’s likeness. As a result, Winnie the Pooh Blood and Honey was created on a tiny budget, and despite scathing reviews, brought in millions of dollars. Now we have Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2; a new macabre, twisted tale of Christopher Robin’s best friends and their adventures in the Hundred Acre Wood brought to the masses by British Filmmaker Rhys Frake-Waterfield and Screenwriter Matt Leslie.

No stranger to the film industry, Rhys Frake-Waterfield managed to make his transition from a location manager, visual effects artist, and producer, to a cult hit out of his first movie script with Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey. In the second chapter, the talent not only lies in the writing from Leslie (known for 2018’s Summer of 84) but also in enhanced makeup effects that managed to surpass the first film. Additionally, while you would normally expect campy and cheesy acting within something like a Horror parody, the cast for Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 does a superb job. Furthermore, you are introduced to a couple more of Pooh’s friends that were not shown in the first film. For example, Owl (Marcus Massey: Bunny the Killer Thing 2015, The Witch Hunters Are Coming 2019) is a character you will not forget; because it is portrayed with such energy that he truly is a creature from our nightmares.

With all this in mind, Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 follows Christopher Robin (Scott Chambers: Malevolent 2018, Doctor Jekyll 2023) after a nightmarish ordeal in the Hundred Acre Wood  Coming to terms with the ghoulish creatures and their gruesome crimes, Christopher is trying to escape towards a normal life. When it seems that he may have the dream life in grasp, a new stream of gruesome crimes sends his life into turmoil, leading to Christopher having to make the ultimate sacrifice.

Unlike most Horror movies, which always have a horrific and gruesome beginning, Winnie The Pooh’s beginning is far from horrid, making the Blood and Honey series much more interesting to fans. While it may upset some, and rightfully so, who knew that a figure that brought joy to millions of children for the last hundred years would become an epic Horror icon?

Overall, Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 is a sure hit with any Horror fan who loves campy and gory films with a touch of childhood nostalgia. Available on Amazon Prime Video since June 26th to rent or purchase, you can also pick it up right before Christmas on DVD or Blu-ray on December 10th when released by Shout! Factory. Also, if you like these sorts of twisted tales, Jagged Edge Productions and ITN Studios announced earlier this year what they are calling The Twisted Childhood Universe; a new Horror cinematic universe that will feature previously announced stand-alone films Bambi: The Reckoning, Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare, and Pinocchio Unstrung. All due out in 2025, for a warped good time, Cryptic Rock gives Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2, 5 out of 5 stars.
