Biffy Clyro – Futique (Album Review)

Biffy Clyro 2025 One of the UK’s most compelling Rock bands out there today, Scotland’s Biffy Clyro are back with their brand new album Futique. Released on September 19, 2025, through Warner Records, the album follows some great momentum-building singles, including “A Little Love,” “Hunting Season,” and “True Believer.” Each offering energy and different dynamics, interestingly enough, the fourth single, “Goodbye,” emerged the morning of the album’s release day, along with a haunting intergalactic music video.

An odd yet curious name, Futique is the tenth studio album from Biffy Clyro. Before we delve deeper into this gem, let us take a step back and explore the band’s rich past. Starting as a trio in 1995, the core of the band has remained with Simon Neil on vocals/guitars/piano, along with the Johnston brothers, James and Ben, on bass and drums respectively.

Building a name for themselves, their fourth album, 2007’s Puzzlegarnered them broader international attention, while 2009’s Only Revolutions built upon their success with hit singles like “Mountain,” “That Golden Rule,” and “Many of Honor.” Jumping forward to 2016, Ellipsis was another banger, which was followed by extensive touring before 2020’s A Celebration of Endings and 2021’s The Myth of the Happily Ever After. Since then, the band members have remained busy outside of Biffy Clyro, but now they are making a significant impact with Futique

Coming with eleven songs, “A Little Love” opens the album with catchy and thriving rhythms, accompanied by thoughtful lyrics that you will be able to relate to instantly. Following the single “Hunting Season,” the intense and strong track will get you going, and “Shot One” brings an enticing opening, leading to a pure sound with soft melodies that will get your mind wandering. With the latter different than the first two songs, “True Believer” returns to intense arrangements with more catchy tunes that will pull you in instantly.

Moving along, the latest single, “Goodbye,” is a deeply sentimental love song that will resonate long after it has ended. The passionate heartache will resonate within you and leave a mark before the strong, lively “Friendshipping” comes along and pulls you out of your chair. This is in contrast to “Woe Is Me, Wow Is You,” which begins with a slow, opening part that gradually unfolds until it turns into a more upbeat vibe, spreading hope and positivity. Sincere and earnest, “It’s Chemical!” gets your mind wandering again before “A Thousand And One” brings along a bright and smooth opening, leading into a dreamy three minutes that will touch your heart for sure. However, “Dearest Amygdala” and “Two People In Love” bring back the more uptempo mood this album firmly rests on.

Overall, Fuitque has less of the usual fireworks, having made room for worries, melancholy, and nostalgia, as well as love, passion, and friendship. It is a massive rollercoaster ride through all emotions, with a range of ups and downs, that pulls you along every step of the way. Full of real feelings you can almost touch, Cryptic Rock gives Biffy Clyro’s Fuitque 5 out of 5 stars.
