Chase Atlantic – Nostalgia (Album Review)

Forming when brothers Clinton (vocals, guitar, and saxophone) and Mitchel Cave (lead vocals, guitar, and bass) started making music covers on YouTube, Chase Atlantic is set to become the next big Pop/Alt Rock band to come out of Australia since 5 Seconds of Summer. With their friend Christian Anthony (vocals, drums, and guitar), Chase Atlantic has a fun, youthful sound that makes listeners crave a full album, which they have been hinting about on their twitter this past month, but sadly have not given a date yet. Although, in light of no full album, they have released two EPs, Dalliance in 2014, and their most recent, Nostalgia EP, released back in February of 2015

Nostalgia starts with a Tribal electro sound, leading up to a vocal range similar to Shaant of Cute is What We Aim For, and instrumentally grows into a powerful force that is the song “Roxanne.” The lyrics focus on a girl who has one entrapped in her beauty and her mannerisms but ends up leaving and causing unanswered questions and heartache. Following is “Vibes,” which is a slow steady beat that has a similar sound to The 1975, with the quick guitar riffs in the chorus, and the mellow vibes through the versus.

“Meddle About,” is one of those songs that has all the inclinations of being a good ‘slow jam.’ Its lyrics, the vocals themselves, and the tempo all come together for a solid jam. “Talk Slow,” has a beach vacation, road trip kind of feel. It is that song one bumps in their car with their friends as they cruise down the Pacific Coast highway. The tambourine/drum mixed beat, finger-snapping, and trance like guitar make the mellow song still rather up beat. Closing out the EP is “Friends.” A song that mixes the best bits of all the other songs on Nostalgia, with the Electro/Trance like beat, as well as lyricism, and keeps the mellow, fun, daze right up until the end.

Chase Atlantic have the potential to be a huge contender in the world of Pop/Alt Rock. On Nostalgia, they display the unique ability of blending sounds that make a listener stay glued to each song. With all the talk of recording new songs, fans hope a new, full-length album is coming very soon. CrypticRock gives Chase Atlantic’s Nostalgia EP 5 out of 5.
