Sometimes, a catchy, disturbing title can set film expectations higher than they should be. This is slightly relevant in the newest sequel to the 2015 film Deathgasm, titled Deathgasm 2: Goremageddon. Premiering at Fantastic Fest on September 21, 2025, and scheduled for a wider release in 2025 or 2026, the film’s premise is that a dirty, depressed metalhead musician tries to overcome his grief and win his heart back. Meanwhile, his ex-girlfriend is making bad decisions and hanging out with a poser emo vocalist.

Directed by Jason Lei Howden (who also directed Deathgasm), starring Kimberly Crossman (Deathgasm 2015, Creamerie series), Milo Cawthorne (Deathgasm 2015, Guns Akimbo 2019), and featuring a little metalhead dog, Deathgasm 2: Goremageddon has no doubt left the audience with some grave memories. That being said, it seems to appeal to a specific niche of Horror fans who like campy humor and disgusting Parlor tricks.
While there was no lack of dismemberment and a cameo or two from actual Metal band members, this sequel falls a little short of the first film. Not that a comedically driven Horror flick embracing the Heavy Metal genre needs an original, deep-rooted plot, but the lack of originality in the typical battle-of-the-bands competition with a little zombie hour is quite apparent.

Should more Horror films involve metalheads? Yes, but should there also be a new theme or concept involved? That answer is also yes. The main character’s dog, wearing a cute little battle vest, is probably the best part of Deathgasm 2: Goremageddon. However, it became a downer when the movie ended with a tribute to the dog, indicating the sadness that he had died in real life. Overall, the male and female stereotypes in this film are engaging, but each character, particularly the antagonist, could have been further developed.
Visually, the effects are pretty fun and brutal. The female characters are portrayed as stronger than the males, which is nice, but also a bit awkward at times. Deathgasm 2 Goremageddon can totally win an award for best B-movie visual gore, incorporating some zombie action, so that is something to their credit.
However, when compared and contrasted with other Heavy Metal-themed films, such as 2018’s Heavy Trip, Deathgasm 2: Goremageddon lacks character development. To get a sense of any of it, you have to have seen the first Deathgasm film. The first one is quite adorable, with a badass metalhead main character. This is a good trait, but it, in turn, left a little more to be desired from the second film.

On the brighter side, the cameos from Trivium and GWAR are definitely highlights of Deathgasm 2 Goremageddon, and the name of the film itself is pretty catchy to repeat. Those who love Metal mixed with Horror can definitely get a kick or two out of this film, which leads Cryptic Rock to give Deathgasm 2 Goremageddon 4 out of 5 stars. Stay Metal and slay zombies!
