Established nearly three decades now, Germany’s Emil Bulls has gone through several stylistic shifts through the years. Always known for their unique blend of Alternative Metal and Rock, in 2024 they are excited to offer yet another twist in their story with the forthcoming album Love Will Fix It.
Set for release on January 12th through Arising Empire, it marks their first album of original music since 2017’s Kill Your Demons. Last we heard from the band in 2019, they dished out a compelling covers album called Mixtape with their take on everything from Taylor Dayne’s “Tell It To My Heart” to Pixies’ “Where Is My Mind.” Now with Love Will Fix It, their eleventh overall full-length studio album, they transform into something completely different than what they have done prior. Looking back, Emil Bulls have been making music since 1995… so they are unquestionably masters of their craft.
All this in mind, you can definitely hear their years of experience as mature musicians on Love Will Fix It. Currently completed with original Vocalist Christoph von Freydorf and longtime Guitarist Stephan Karl, joining them are Guitarist Andy Bock, Bassist Pascal Theisen, along with Drummer Fabian Füss, the twelve songs that make up Love Will Fix It are extremely catchy, plus amply addictive. Starting out rough and tough; thematically the music expresses hints of frustration about untrustworthy people. From here, the album gradually turns towards hope and love, concluding filled with love, along with new found strength.
Quite intense, all the songs come with heavy parts that take turns with melodic and catchy tunes. Striking you had with each chorus, usually the chorus there is a perfect balance between harsher and smoother parts which all dig deep underneath your skin. That in mind, each piece also tells a story that you will certainly be able to relate to; which makes the music of Love Will Fix It extremely humble and honest.
When it comes to which song sticks out or has the potential to become a favorite, that really depends on your personal view, connection to each topic, and of course, your mood. Considering this, some favorites would have to include “Happy Birthday You Are Dead To Me,” “Whirlwind of Doom,” “Sick,” and “Together.” Although, it is so difficult to leave out other tracks, because each of them sticks out as something special. Simple put, each has its own character, narrative and style that catches your attention.
In the end Emil Bulls’ Love Will Fix It is a determined collection of songs that act as a cathartic release. Like a volcano erupting, it turns and makes a big cut just to end soothing, and is essentially more about love than hate. After all, ‘love will fix it’… right? All extremely memorable, the album is a celebration to family and close friends, or maybe even for a new beginning. Any way you look at it this is a bold moment in Emil Bulls’ career. And if you are someone who may not be familiar with the band, Love Will Fix It is a great place to start before you dig deep into the achievements to experience the trajectory of their journey. A full force attack that will jolt you into the new year, Cryptic Rock gives Love Will Fix It 5 out of 5 stars.
