For over five decades, John Lodge’s name was synonymous with the Rock-n-Roll band The Moody Blues. Joining them in 1966, Lodge would become a significant part of their success as a key songwriter and co-vocalist with Justin Hayward. Responsible for hits like 1968’s “Ride My See-Saw,” 1972’s “Isn’t Life Strange,” 1973’s “I’m Just a Singer (In a Rock and Roll Band),” among others, it is hard to imagine The Moody Blues without him.
Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018, The Moody Blues also wound down touring after half of a century following the retirement of late Drummer Graeme Edge. The end of an era, fortunately, both Lodge and Hayward have remained active recording music and touring as solo artists. Recapping the last decade, Lodge released the impressive 10,000 Light Years Ago in 2015 before a couple of live albums, leading into the equally exciting Days of Future Passed – My Sojourn from 2023. Keeping busy, unexpectedly Lodge was forced to postpone further touring in early 2024 due to suffering a stroke.
Always a frightening experience for anyone, the good news is Lodge healed rather quickly and was able to resume touring later in 2024, with more dates set for early 2025 which will include a complete performance of 1967’s Moody Blues’ album Days of Future’s Pass. Exciting times for fans, it is even more inspiring to see Lodge rocking and rolling and he is perhaps the most grateful of all. Taking nothing for granted, Lodge is conscious that life is short and so is the time that we are given. That is why during his recovery time he had a moment to reflect and with that came the heartfelt song “Love Will Conquer All.”
A song written by Lodge in early 2024, it was released on November 15th as a Christmas single. Possessing a tone of positivity, hope, and graciousness, “Love Will Conquer All” features the words of a man who realizes how precious time is. Capturing the mood of Christmas, one which we often lose sight of the remainder of each year, it is a song that will warm your heart and give you a brighter outlook on tomorrow. After all, if we give up hope, what do we have?
Put out digitally, the single is an introduction to Lodge’s EP entitled Love Conquers All which is due out on February 14, 2025. Something that will be available for streaming, you can also purchase it on CD as well as a Limited Edition 180-gram Violet Vinyl. A great way to place two feet on the ground and look at today, tomorrow, and the future with a more grounded, humble outlook, Cryptic Rock gives John Lodge’s “Love Will Conquer All” 5 out of 5 stars.
