Lacrimas Profundere is a gothic-metal band that has been together for over twenty years, toured in twenty five countries, and sold over 100.000 albums. The South-German connection has played throughout Europe with some of the greatest names in the gothic scene including Paradise Lost, The 69 Eyes, Lacuna Coil, and Apocalyptica, to name a few. They have also shared the stage with such greats as Type O Negative, Ozzy Osbourne. and Marilyn Manson while on some of the biggest European festivals like M’era Luna, Summerbreeze, Rock Harz, Wacken, Wave-Gotik-Treffen, ARTmania, and the Szignet for an enthralled audience.  It is safe to say over the years Lacrimas Profundere have found their place as one of the leading bands in the gothic-metal scene.

While some fans were sad to see original vocalist Christopher Schmid’s departure in 2007, the band has carried on strongly with  Rob Vitacca on vocals.  For those unaware, Christopher Schmid is still active in the band as a lyricist, so even though he is no longer fronting the band his present is still felt heavily.  After releasing The Grandiose Nowhere (2010), the second album with Vitacca on vocals, the band embarked on headlining tours of Asia and South America.

Three years after heavy touring, the band is back with their tenth studio album titled Antiadore (2013), which heralds a promising new decade of Goth’n’ Roll.  Featuring the line-up of mastermind Oliver Nikolas Schmid (guitar), Rob Vitacca (vocals), Tony Berger (guitar), Clea Clemens (bass), and Christoph Schepperle (drums) the band is strong and as vital as ever.   Proving they have something big brewing with Antiadore, they collaborated  the Almighty’s vocalist Ricky Warwick as a guest composer and even feature some guest vocals from Christopher Schmid.

Matched with previous albums such as Songs for the Last View (2008) or The Grandiose Nowhere (2010), Antiadore sounds much more fresh and alive with melancholy rock hymns that fans of the genre will be crazy about. The inspiring opener “My Release in Pain” with a signature Lacrimatic piano-line and dirty rocking guitars starts to take you on a melancholic trip, carried by Vitacca’s charismatic voice and an earworm-chorus.  The song is followed by the heart pumping and rolling title-track “Antiadore”.  Other notable songs are “Deny For Now” and “Remembrance Song” which strike a magical chord in the listeners hearts.

More excitement comes with  “What I’m not”, “All for Nothing” and  the album’s grand finale “A Sigh”.  All the tracks are  equipped with huge choruses, full of oppressive sadness which leaves no wishes left unfulfilled for goth-rock lovers. These are some of the reasons Antiadore will remain in your CD player for heavy rotation for the foreseeable future.

It is very difficult to name a single standout track on Antiadore, because the whole album is a cohesive masterpiece. Antiadore covers every facet to be an outstanding, diversified, melancholy, sad but heavy rocking album.  The secret of the songs may be the fact that the band pairs perfectly the roughness and aggression of bitter feelings with smart and well placed  keyboard/piano and guitar melodies, which are sticking in the listeners head immediately.  The album may in fact have everything  it takes to become an all-time genre-classic.  Lacrimas Profundere deserves to be heard by every lover of emotional rock-music.  CrypticRock unquestionably gives this album 5 out of 5 stars.
