Lost Time (Movie Review)

Lost Time is the latest Sci-Fi/Horror from King Kai Production and Seskri Produktionz. Scripted by Writers Kenneth Owens and Christian Sesma (Rochelle Vallese:  Jingle All the Way 1996, Humanity’s End 2009), while directed by Christian Sesma (On Bloody Sunday 2007, Shoot the Hero 2010), Lost Time tells the story of Valerie Dreyfuss (Rochelle Vallese). Valerie is dying from breast cancer and is told by her Doctor that she does not have long to live. Valerie lost her mother the same way, but fortunately her sister Melissa is her carer, and despite it being hard, they are always there for each other. One evening they are travelling back from a medical appointment when the car mysteriously stalls and wont restart. The car is flooded by a bright white light and everything happens in a blur. When Valerie comes to, she realizes that Melissa (Jenni Blong: 200 Cigarettes 1999, Cry-Baby 1990) is missing.  Four months later, Valerie’s cancer is completely gone, and even her hair has regrown; she has never felt better, but, the only thing that sours her recovery is Melissa is still missing.

Valerie’s ex-boyfriend Detective Carter (Luke Goss: Blade II 2002, Hellboy II: The Golden Army 2008) still keeps an eye out for her but has just been pulled of Melissa’s missing case. There is no evidence to follow and all Valerie can remember is a bright white light and some missing time. If Valerie did not have a connection with Carter, she would be the main suspect. Valerie is driven to find Melissa at any cost and tries to reenact the events of the night Melissa went missing to get some answers. When she is searching the internet she looks up causes of missing time and comes across the webpage of Doctor Xavier Reed (Robert Davi: The Goonies 1985, Die Hard 1988) who has just written a book about the causes of missing time; it looks like Valerie had found someone to help her. Valerie attends Dr. Reed’s book signing and lecture and hopes to speak to him further. He asked her to meet him at a location and Valerie is led to a strange and creepy facility.

The only way that Valerie can speak to Doctor Reed is to meet him at the location. Once Valerie has entered the building and met Nurse Mary (Maria Olsen: Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief 2010, Paranormal Activity 3 2011), she finds she cannot leave until she has completed some group therapy sessions. Valerie is led to her room where she encounters other survivors of what seems to be Alien Abduction. Valerie seems to be the luckiest one out of all of them, having had her cancer taken away, rather than something more insidious. Valerie eventually gets to talk to Doctor Reed and comes to believe that Melissa and she were indeed abducted and what was done to them was too horrible for Valerie to remember.

While Valerie is at the facility with Doctor Reed and his creepy associates, Detective Carter investigates Doctor Reed and finds some disturbing information, which draws him to the same facility that Valerie is held in. Once Valerie starts her therapy, she starts remembering what happened to her, and until the other victims at the facility start to die, nothing will deter her from the truth. What Valerie discovers shocks and terrifies her, and she ends up fighting for her life from an unexpected threat. The pieces of the puzzle start coming together for Valerie, but will she live to save her sister?

Lost time is an original concept in terms of Alien Abduction. That said, three quarters through the movie it takes an unexpected, and welcome, turn. Then, another twist sends the story into a weird tailspin, which is hard to follow and fathom. The appearances of an accomplished cast including Goss and Davi add some validity to the film, and Lost Time is fairly well-acted, despite the extreme changes in the plot.  CrypticRock gives Lost Time 3 out of 5.
