Ozzy: No Escape From Now (Documentary Review)

Ozzy: No Escape From Now / Paramount+ (2025) A universal language, music has ignited the souls of many around the world. Despite tragedy, chronic illness, and loss, music gives many of us the strength of a superhero and the will to carry on. Taking this into consideration, 2025 has been a bittersweet year, marked by emotions, as Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath performed their Back To The Beginning farewell concert on July 5th, before Ozzy’s devastating death just a few weeks later. In the wake of the loss of a true Rock-n-Roll icon, Paramount+ released the documentary Ozzy: No Escape From Now on October 7, 2025.

Shining a light on Ozzy Osbourne, the freshly released Ozzy: No Escape From Now serves as excellent documentation of the trials and tribulations of Ozzy Osbourne’s last few years on Planet Earth. A film created before Ozzy’s passing, with a slightly pushed back release, it highlights heartfelt interview snippets from his beloved wife, Sharon, and his children, Aimee, Kelly, and Jack Osbourne.

Additionally, it also features contributions from bandmates and other friends in the entertainment business, including: Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath), Duff McKagan & Slash (Guns N’ Roses), Robert Trujillo & James Hetfield (Metallica), Billy Idol, Maynard James Keenan (Tool), Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Ozzy’s long-standing guitarist Zakk Wylde, producer Andrew Watt, Billy Morrison, Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine), Mike Inez (Alice In Chains) and Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins) It also shows the perfect Hall Of Fame introduction by Jack Black, who is a huge fan of Ozzy. Ozzy’s family, friends, and fans were always holding him up as high as they could through all his pain and suffering.

From Ozzy’s 2019 fall (which led to multiple surgeries and significant chronic pain) to his ongoing battle with Parkinson’s, his touring had to come to an end, which slowly drove much pleasure out of his life. As stated in previous interviews, he used to take drugs for fun back in the day, but for those last six years, he took them as prescribed by doctors to stay alive. Through Sharon Osbourne’s business acumen and tough love, she was able to get Ozzy to record a final album (2022’s Patient Number 9) and to be on stage one last time, where he was always destined to be. It is often speculated that he lived so long because of Sharon’s constant care and supportive guidance in his music career, and in this film, it becomes clear, as Ozzy states himself in his own humorous way.

No matter how big or small Ozzy Osbourne’s presence was in any individual’s life, the silence of sadness still sweeps over the world from his passing. What have we all gained from this experience that hit some of us as hard as the death of our own childhoods? Well, in addition to our solid, unforgettable recollection of where we were and what we were doing when we learned of Ozzy Osborne’s death, the next generation’s awareness of the roots of heavy metal has begun. Ozzy’s passing down one of his cross necklaces to musical artist Yungblud is a key token of the beginning of this.

Overall, Ozzy: No Escape From Now is a must-watch to really appreciate and understand the inner dynamics of just how strong Ozzy and his family were. The fans also never stopped pushing him toward greatness, and although he was kicked out of Black Sabbath early in his career, the best outcome of that was the many solo albums fans love to tear up to. Although Ozzy could not safely stand at the end of his career, he still sang his heart out from his customized bat throne at the Back To The Beginning final show at Villa Park in his hometown, Birmingham, UK. Ozzy’s funeral, just a few short weeks after his last performance, was a very heartbreaking moment for all.

Nevertheless, everyone was so grateful to have that last concert, where they got to sing along to the classic lyrics of “Mama I’m Coming Home,” which gave everyone some closure. Ozzy’s life was filled with his comedic antics, followed by genuine laughter, which he shared with his family and fans on the TV show The Osbournes. Through every passed era and every future day, he truly lives on inside of us all.

In the end, John Michael “Ozzy” Osbourne fulfilled his prophecy as The Prince Of Darkness, The Godfather Of Heavy Metal, and he truly gave the world so much laughter, love, and damn great heartfelt Heavy Metal music. Recommended to watch with a box of tissues on standby, Cryptic Rock gives Ozzy: No Escape From Now 5 out of 5 stars.
