Punky Meadows - Wrap Me Up Christmas Single

Punky Meadows – Wrap Me Up (Single Review)

Famously recognized as the guitarist of the band Angel, Punky Meadows is a name Rock-n-Roll fans know well. Meadows, a founding member of Angel, played an intricate part in building the band’s sound and unique image. Eventually earned the attention of KISS’s Gene Simmons, who caught the band performing at a nightclub, Angel was soon signed onto Casablanca Records.

From here, Angel released their self-titled album in 1975, followed by three more albums in 1979 with Sinful. Unfortunately, Angel split in 1981, but this would not be the end; because there would be several reunions through the decades, leading to the most current reassembly which took shape in 2018.

This resurrection has been led by original Angel Vocalist Frank DiMino and Guitarist Punky Meadows, touring and releasing a comeback record in 2019 called Risen, before 2023’s varied, highly melodic Rock album Once Upon a Time. An exciting period for the dedicated following of Angel, now in 2024 Punky Meadows surprises all with the release of an original Christmas song.

Just in time for the Christmas season, Meadows unveiled the track on Friday, November 29, 2024 through Deko Entertainment and he calls it “Wrap Me Up.” The first ever Christmas song from Meadows, “Wrap Me Up” follows a much more traditional Christmas mood than the blistering Hard Rock sound many associate with Meadows’ guitar work. Penned by Meadows in this fashion, the intent was to create a mood in the vein of a ‘50s or ‘60s Christmas Standard… and its successes quite well.

With a bright mix of instrumentation and smooth leading vocals of Gabriel Levine, the song is a mix of holiday cheer and old-fashioned romance. Quite catchy and it is something you can easily spin at your Christmas parties or simply enjoy fireside with your significant other.

The colorful tune can be streamed through various platforms, however, there is also a CD Single that includes an autographed Christmas Card. Limited edition to only 300 copies, it is available through Deko Entertainment’s website directly, is a nice gift for any Angel fan, but overall a great splash of positive Christmas time cheer. That is why Cryptic Rock gives Punky Meadow’s “Wrap Me Up” 4.5 out of 5 stars.
