Tantric Bring An Intimate Evening Of Rock To Revolution Amityville, NY 3-12-14

Since 2001 hard rock band Tantric has crafted soulful original music that audiences have gravitated to time and time again.  Through several line-up changes the one thing which has stood strong through five studio albums is songwriter and lead vocalist Hugo Ferreira.  With the band’s most recent studio album 37 Channels released in September 2013, Ferreira and his band announced a list of tour dates to support the new material.  On Wednesday March 12th the show arrived at Revolution Bar & Music Hall in Amityville, NY to perform in front of a group of dedicated fans.

Opening the evening was a series of local bands including Iron Maiden tribute band Life After Death, Born of Scars, and Philadelphia, PA Transithop.  After the group of bands warmed up the room Tantric fans gathered close to the stage awaiting the band’s performance.  With Tantric having put on an exciting performance the night prior in New York City at Webster Hall, this show 40 miles east of the city took on a more intimate vibe.

Ferreira and band took the stage rattling off some classic Tantric tunes from the platinum debut Tantric (2001) and After We Go (2004) era.  Songs like “Hey Now”, “Live Your Life”, and “Astounded” were just a few of the highlights early on in the performance.  Taking on a VH1 Storytellers atmosphere, Ferreria paused in between each song explaining the meaning; bringing the audience that much closer to the passion and love behind the music.  Mixing in an array of tunes from Mind Control (2009) and 37 Channels really hit the spot for this audience combining heaviness with dynamics.

Perhaps one of the most captivating moments of the set was when Ferreira went behind a keyboard with the rest of the band playing acoustically and performed”Mourning”.  Echoing through the fabric of your very soul, the song hit emotionally hard and Ferreira recreated the magic in magnificent fashion. Ferreira’s unmistakable voice was right on all night through with infliction and emotion that brought each song to life equally as effective as the one before.

The evening moved along at a steady pace, showered with personality and intrigue, showing fans the heart of songwriter Hugo Ferreira.  Tracks off 37 Channels mixed perfectly with fans’ favorite Tantric tunes and showed the steady progression of the band’s music over the years.  It is shows such as these which really make concert going worthwhile to avid music lovers; introspective, relaxing, and memorable.  Tantric still has the same musical allure all these years later and prove to be an asset to modern rock.
