The New Roses - Attracted To Danger / Napalm Records (2024)

The New Roses – Attracted To Danger (Album Review)

The New Roses band 2024

How many bands can say they have shared the stage with KISS, Aerosmith, Foreigner, Scorpions, ZZ Top, Black Stone Cherry, Joe Bonamassa, Airbourne, Molly Hatchet, Y&T, Blackfoot, Dead Daisies, Steel Panther, Saxon, and Accept? The answer is not many at all… but one of the select few is The New Roses. Out of Germany, The New Roses first made an impression when their song “Without a Trace” was included on a compilation for the hit TV series Sons Of Anarchy in 2013. Something that attracted attention, the band has been making their way in the decade since with a passionate form of Hard Rock.

Straight forward Rock-n-Roll with some grit, The New Roses have not only made a new for themselves as a live band but have released five full-length studio albums between 2013’s debut Without a Trace, and 2022’s Sweet Poison. The mark of tremendous consistency, they have dished out roughly an album every two years, and right on track here we are in 2024 with their latest, Attracted To Danger.

Released on October 4th through Napalm Records, the band’s sixth album finds them adding some bulk to their sound with heavier, even more aggressive riffs. A move some may say is a bit of a risk, considering the band has comfortably found a place for themselves in the modern Hard Rock scene, the new approach is rather exciting. Retaining who they are, Vocalist/Guitarist Timmy Rough, Guitarist Dizzy Daniels, Bassist Hardy, and Drummer Urban Berz dig a bit deeper, turn up the amps, and deliver a passionate performance.

Taking all matters into account, there is a possibility that some are not all too familiar with The New Roses outside the European market. For those, who enjoy bands like Classic Rock or acts from the ‘80s that had a bluesy Hard Rock sound like Cinderella, Bon Jovi, and Great White, you will love The New Roses. Furthermore, if you enjoy modern Rock bands like Black Stone Cherry, Buckcherry, or Shaman’s Harvest, you will also enjoy The New Roses. Comparisons to give you an understanding of where the German band is rooted, with Attracted to the Danger they bring one of the most potent Hard Rock records of 2024.

Altogether ten songs, the lead single “When You Fall In Love” is dressed with an upbeat, summertime party vibe, but the follow-up release of the title-track hit you hard with a blistering riff and catchy pace. However, the third single, “Hold Me Up,” is the opposite with the collaboration of Scotland’s Gill Montgomery (The Hot Damn, The Amorettes) that creates more of a Southern Rock ballad vibe. Showing extreme diversity in these songs alone, for many, the heavier entries on the album will make the biggest impression.

Among these balls-to-the-wall hard rockers you have “Four Wheels” and “Bring The Thunder,” but let us not forget the soulful “Whiskey in the Backseat.” However, amidst it all, there is no denying how extraordinarily good their cover of Neil Young’s “Rockin’ In The Free World” is. A song many have covered before, including Bon Jovi, Pearl Jam, and SOiL, dare we say The New Roses is hands down the best of them.

Overall, Attracted To Danger is an anthemic Hard Rock album with a heartbeat. It is genuine, and you can feel it right down to the high endurance of Timmy Rough singing, matched up with the bending of the guitar strings of Dizzy Daniels. Recommended Hard Rock lovers worldwide to check out Attracted To Danger, Cryptic Rock gives it 4 out of 5 stars.
