Most would immediately be curious to learn what a band called Moon Fever sounds like. A compelling, attention-grabbing title to call yourself, this four-piece Rock band has a sound a bit different than what is currently out there. Not following the paths of other cookie-cutter acts or riding the coattails of what is trending at the moment, the Seattle, WA-based Moon Fever flexes Modern Rock muscles with a flair of other sounds that certainly make them stand out.
Formed in 2020, the band has earned their stripes on the road along veteran acts like Godsmack, Adelita’s Way, and Buckcherry. With that in mind, 2024 was a big year for them as they sustained charted songs on Mainstream Rock charts. A great momentum builder, Moon Fever now looks to make a seismic shift in the music world with their debut album, Forever Sleep, detonated by Astro Recordings on February 14, 2025.
The band members – Triston Bracht (vocals), Mitch Micoley (guitar), Dave Orton (bass), and Troy Wageman (drums) – got their creative juices flowing to create this compelling album that resonates with verve and passion. In fact, the tracks’ oscillating rhythms will keep the neural net busy transmitting excitatory signals for a heart-racing listen. A very tight-sounding group, together they create a mind-blowing medley of acoustical sound that invigorates and rejuvenates the soul.
With all of this in mind, Moon Fever set the bar high with this debut album, and they literally crushed it. However, as alluded to, what makes this band uniquely different than any other band out there? Well, the proof is in the songs, but you could say it is their ability to tap into their combined wellspring of wisdom and create a musical arrangement that expresses it in an impactful way that resonates with their fans. Considering this, diving into Forever Sleep is an exhilarating experience with an inhalation of sound reverberating through the sinuses.
The album sagely and creatively examines the themes of perseverance and resilience in life. These are imperative elements to embody in this journey of never-ending obstacles. Simply put, it reminds you that you should not lurk in the shadows but strive to be the best version of yourself despite the seeming odds. Inspiring, there is plenty on Forever Sleep that riveted your attention.
For example, the single “Getting Loud” is a raucous piece that starts off with a sound blast of power chords and thundering vocals. A driving tempo pushes it along and ends with a mesmerizing, energetic guitar riff that is held and prolonged fades out. Definitely much more invigorating than a cup of coffee. This is while “Nothing Left to Lose” (another single) is a high-energy head-banging piece with raspy Hard Rock vocals belting out a hypnotic chorus. This is definitely one to get in the mental zone of no thoughts, just sound ping-ponging about inside your skull.
Then there is the title track of “Forever Sleep,” which enters in slow motion with extended notes that swirl around the air like a vortex. The vocals are strong and dramatically modulated to create a sense of being sucked down into an abyss of a personal hell, as intimated by the chorus, ‘I’m broken.’ Beyond this, the remainder of Forever Sleep is intoxicating and reflects a spirit of rebelliousness. Complete with leading vocals that are gutsy and gritty; they are only interrupted with forceful dramatic harmonies.
In the end, Moon Fever’s Forever Sleep is truly a well-crafted piece and shows that the band is capable of, and, with their drive, they will still raise the bar. It is said that ‘love conquers all,’ and if that is the case, then this album has definitely snagged and captivated the hearts of rockers beyond its Valentine’s Day release! That is why Cryptic Rock recommends Moon Fever for anyone looking for Hard Rock with a soul, giving Forever Sleep 5 out of 5 stars.
