Known as a documentary filmmaker, The Beast Within is the feature debut film of Alexander J. Farrell. A new Horror film that debuted in theaters on July 26, 2024, through Well Go USA Entertainment, co-written and directed by Farrell, the film also arrived digitally on August 13th and is set for release on DVD and Blu-ray on October 22nd. A Gothic-styled story, featuring a cast of Kit Harrington (Game of Thrones series, Eternals 2021), Ashleigh Cummings (Hounds of Love 2016, Citadel series), James Cosmo (Braveheart 1995, Troy 2004), as well as Caoilinn Springwall (Stopmotion 2024, Doctor Who series), The Beast Within is sure to bring Horror fans a night terror.
Looking at it closer, the film follows a family who reside in the middle of nowhere and have little to no contact with the outside world. Set on the English Countryside, it captivates the dramatic arc of a family being torn apart by a family curse. The English family living in solitude, and left to their devices, have been able to fool the youngest member of the family… until now. Overtaken by curiosity their daughter Willow decides to find out what her beloved family is truly hiding.
An epic drama, The Beast Within shows the intense relationship between man and his humanity. With this in mind, Kit Harrington is flawless in his portrayal of man and beast. Even though he is known to portray warm, loving characters, his role as Noah in this film shows that he can play anything without any hindrance.
Furthermore, The Beast Within shows what happens when a man chooses between the beast and their humanity. Strong performances by this cast universally help bring the story to life with great vigor and appeal. In many other werewolf-type films, there is very little thought involved, and they are often filled with just gore or mediocre effects. Far from the norm, one of the most notable parts of The Beast Within is the portrayal of the young Willow; the couple’s 10-year-old daughter, played by Caoilinn Springwall. Willow starts as a naïve, sheltered farmer’s daughter who is doted on by her loving family, but when push comes to shove, this young girl shows that she can defend her family at all costs.
In the end, The Beast Within is one of the most dramatic werewolf movies to grace the silver screen in quite some time. Embodied by many distinguishing qualities, Cryptic Rock gives The Beast Within 5 out of 5 stars.
