You’ll Never Find Me (Movie Review)

Isolating oneself from the rest of the world certainly has its ups and downs. Directed by Josiah Allen and Indianna Bell, their new film You’ll Never Find Me revolves around the main character Patrick (Brendan Rock: The Stranger 2022, Carnifex 2022) aiming to do just that. Living in his own created isolation, within a trailer at the back of a park, Patrick is seemingly having a quiet evening alone… or so he thinks.

Available for streaming through Shudder on March 22, 2024, in terms of a typical Horror film plot, the Australian You’ll Never Find Me is more of a psychological suspense Thriller in terms of the execution. Usually in suspense Thrillers there is some surprising plot twist at the end that leaves you questioning what is real and what is not. You’ll Never Find Me is quite strange in this regard, but it does fit into that line of thinking.

After an intrusive knocking on the door of his RV, a female visitor (Jordan Cowan: Harmony 2018, Jade of Death series) enters; mysterious and wet from the storm. Thus, the intended awkward dialogue and gender power play in uncomfortable darkness begins. The interaction between the two main characters sways the audience in either direction of who will betray who. Is the mysterious woman visitor out to get Patrick? Perhaps his generous offerings are going to backfire, or perhaps they are a decoy to get in closer for the kill?

For those who are looking for an action-based Thriller, You’ll Never Find Me will not be your cup of tea. It is more of an eerie, slightly mystifying, Waiting for Godot (1953) kind of cerebral experience. In isolation, there are constants, comforts, and intrusive thoughts. That considered, You’ll Never Find Me is an exploration of a twisted mind that sets as many traps as it falls into. Created on a modest budget, the film seems to be one of those passion projects that does not quite exude its full meaning to the audience upon a first watch. It is however a think outside the box type of film because of the not so typical setting or conclusion.

In all, You’ll Never Find Me has very subtle running themes that hint at a horrific journey. Although, the time and space of it all very non-linear… it will keep you full of wonder. While it may not be for everyone, it does provide a unique simplicity in its cerebral connection with a select audience. Additionally, there is a refreshing notion in the fact that You’ll Never Find Me avoids a more cliché Horror plot. With a modernized reverse role play where the woman intrudes on the man, it sparks an unusual dynamic in and of itself, which is why Cryptic Rock gives You’ll Never Find Me 3.5 out of 5 stars.
