Roadkill (Movie Review)

An early entry into the Thriller genre in 2024, Roadkill arrived in select theaters and to digital on January 5th through Uncork’d Entertainment. Written and Directed by Warren Fast (Trooper Evan 2014, Finding Grace 2019), the film runs for 90 minutes and centers around revenge… but is it the high-charged Thriller it appears to be?

Answering that question, Roadkill is honestly lives up to being a pretty fast-paced Thriller. In fact, it is a no holds barred killing spree that promises to please both car enthusiasts and Horror fans alike.  Starring Danielle Harris (Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers 1988, Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead 1991), Caitlin Carmichael (Chosen series, Doc McStuffins series), Ryan Knudson (30 seconds in Hell 2021, The Book of Revelation mini-series), Trenton Hudson (Dead Hand 2019, Mural 2019) and Fast himself, Roadkill follows the story of vengeful killer who will stop at nothing to make their macabre fantasies come true.

Set in the 1980s, you are transported into a rural space surrounded by country roads, fast cars and non-stop grisly amusement. Leading this well-selected cast is Caitlin Carmichael who plays a mysterious driver. Not provided a name, she is on her way through town until she stops for directions from a quiet, lonesome hitchhiker played by Ryan Knudson. From here, it is a blood fest that starts out slow, but leads you down a harrowing path of high-speed chases and murderous close calls.

Relatively fresh to directing, Warren Fast does an amazing job with his vision for Roadkill. In fact, he proves that you can mix elements of Action with Slasher, all with just the right amount of blood and gore. Furthermore, he was able to get the seasoned Danielle Harris involved in the film as well. Harris, a talent and well-known in the Horror community because of her roles in various roles through the years , solidifies outside interest in Roadkill

Overall, Roadkill is quite reminiscent of ’80s Horror; featuring elements of all the best independent and campy films we have come to know and love. Keeping you guessing from beginning to end, it also has a dark sense of humor and a charisma that keeps you engaged. So, if you are a fan of retro styled Horror films, and using the ’80s as a basis for what you enjoy, Roadkill will more than likely keep you entertained. After all, who does not like a female lead cast with fast cars? Probably very few, and that is why Cryptic Rock gives Roadkill 3 out of 5 stars.
