It seems that many Rock-n-Roll and Heavy Metal fans share a common love for coffee. More a passion for the rich, bold flavor, rather than being flavored coffee snobs, it stands to reason that many bands are teaming with coffee brewers for special blends. Which leads you to wonder, why coffee? Coffee is a moment one looks forward to at the start of their day or winding down after dinner, time spent with friends, something familiar to hold on to in the ever-changing life we live. Coffee is a tie that brings people together.
Aware of this, in recent years independent coffee companies like Dead Sled Coffee have put out some killer special edition bags of coffee associated with bands; such as Skid Row’s Slave to the Grind Coffee and Disturbed’s Get Up: Dark Java Blend from 2022. This is while Death Wish Coffee has appealed to the taste buds of Rock fans for years, teaming with Halestorm in 2022 for a cool unplugged, unscripted recorded performance they called Coffee Notes.
Clever, fun ways to unify coffee and music, now in 2024 Heavy Metal icons Testament are going “Over the Wall” into this realm. A partnership between Testament and Coterie Coffee Company, the brand new roast called Brazen is dubbed the official tour coffee of Testament as they chug along Klash of the Titans North American 2024 Tour with Kreator and Possessed. A killer lineup within itself, the fact that you can pick up this limited edition item while at a show is pretty damn cool. Roasted freshly directly before the tour started to maximize freshness, there is a lot to uncover here.
First and foremost, it is available in whole bean, drip, coarse, and espresso options, it is recommended to use 10+ days after the roast date by Coterie Coffee Company for their sister company Concept Cafes. A good teaming with Concepts Cafes’ Mike Tonsetic states, “Growing up abroad and essentially having to restart your life every few years, you inherit this identity crisis where you have to latch on to constants like music & art. I really think these things keep you connected not only to the world at large, but to people as individuals as well, and I just believe coffee has become one of these constants for me.”
With this in mind, Testament’s Brazen is packaged in a limited edition collectible coffee tin (not a bag), that is only available on the North American Klash of the Titans Tour ’24. Looking at this for a moment, the tin features an exclusive Testament piece of art printed directly onto the tin, and not merely just an affixed label. Pulling out all the stops and giving you a quality package, it is important to also talk about the flavor of the coffee inside. The definition of brazen – bold and without shame – is a good choice here.
From the second you open the Brazen tin, you begin to experience the rich fragrance of perfectly roasted beans. Then you peel the foil and unleash the full aroma, and let us say, any coffee aficionado will be in heaven. Upon brewing and filling your space with the fragrance of freshly ground beans, what you can expect to taste after the first sip is smooth, bold, richly roasted coffee in its grandness. A lot to say for coffee? Well, if you’re brazen enough, find out for yourself…
Truthfully very flavorful coffee, and it should please any coffee fan, it is also a great addition to any Testament fan’s collection. Just one of the many Testament collector’s items you can pick up in 2024, let us not forget that earlier in the year Nuclear Blast Records put out remastered versions of both 1987’s The Legacy and 1988’s The New Order both digitally and on vinyl. Furthermore, Testament and Modist Brewing Company debuted their collaborative beer release, Apocalyptic City, in Minneapolis on September 24th. An awesome time to be a Testament fan, for those located in the NYC tri-state area, on October 9th from 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM you can meet and greet Testament (Chuck Billy, Alex Skolnick, Eric Peterson, Steve Di Giorgio, Chris Dovas) at Duff’s in Brooklyn for a chance to have them sing some albums, and maybe a coffee tin. So, do not miss your chance to grab Testament’s Brazen coffee before it is gone forever, because Cryptic Rock gives it 5 out of 5 stars.
